About
Dr. Leïla Choukroune (Doctorate in International Law from Paris Sorbonne Law School, Lawyer Paris Bar) is Director of the advanced Master in International and European Economic Law Deputy Director of the Institute for Globalization and Economic Regulation (IGIR) and Member of the Faculty’s India Team.
She teaches international economic law at Maastricht University Law
Faculty and Graduate School of Governance where she coordinates courses on investment, WTO and development law.
Her research deals with the interactions between trade, investment and human rights with a special interest for the emerging world and Asia, China and India in particular, where she has lived and visits very frequently. Dr. Choukroune has been invited by a large number of Asian academic institutions (Beijing People’s University Law School, Hong Kong Chinese University, Hong Kong University, Indian Society of International Law, West Bengal University of Juridical Sciences, Bangalore Law School, Tokyo Maison Franco-Japonaise, etc) and organised international conferences with many of them.
She has obtained a number of external research funding and is currently pursuing a research stay with National Law University Delhi (NLUD) thanks to a grant she has been awarded by the NWO and the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). Dr Choukroune’s publications appear in international academic journals and books as well as in the global media.
She has performed consultancy work for a variety of international organisations and donors on a global basis and is an independent adviser to the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) and several multinational companies.
Prior to joining Maastricht, Dr. Choukroune was assistant Professor at HEC Paris Law Department, Lecturer at Paris Sorbonne Law School and researcher at the French Centre for Contemporary China Studies (CEFC) in Hong Kong.
